What I Had For Dinner Tonight
In 2008, I launched a blog to answer a question a friend kept asking me, “What did you have for dinner tonight?” I realized it would be more fun if others could contribute and share their meals, and soon, the blog became a global community, with thousands of posts and comments.
Now the blog boasts members from North America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa, and has a thriving Facebook community, too. It is fully Search Engine Optimized, and ranks in the top 10 of major search engines for common variations of the phrase, “dinner tonight.”
The blog is also fully interactive with Twitter- all posts to the site and Facebook are sent out as tweets. There is even a mechanism to allow Twitter users to post directly to the blog by including the hash-tag (or keyword) “#wihfdt” in their tweets.
Wind River Blog
Gillico was retained by Wind River Systems, an embedded software company located in Alameda, CA, now owned by Intel, in 2006 to develop, set up and technically produce a network of blogs to promote their internal talent. The basic design was provided, although I tweaked it to make it work properly with TypePad. Over the next three years Gillico integrated all kinds of new social networking functionality, such as sharing to major sites, including Digg, Facebook and Twitter, and integration with a variety of RSS readers.
At its height, Gillico was technically producing and editing over two dozen blogs generating fresh content daily for the network. I also trained executives from all over the world within the company how to blog; not only how to use the TypePad software to post to their individual blogs and respond to comments, but also how to write interesting and engaging posts and interact with other blogs to generate traffic to the site.
TroyLaw.net
The Law Office of Christine Troy handles immigration cases in San Francisco. Gillico created a site for her practice using WordPress blogging software that allows her staff to add articles of interest to her clients whenever they like and categorize them so that they can be easily found.
This allows her site to respond quickly to changing legal climates and adjust to her clients' needs efficiently. Best of all, this is accomplished without having to pay outside maintenance fees to keep the content on her site up to date.
LaunchSquad
LaunchSquad has retained Gillico's services on several occasions to enhance their WordPress blogs, to add social networking capabilities with Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook to their site, and to provide illustrations.
